History

The 1980's

Health Trends was started in September 1988 by Mike & Opie Wright at 228 N. Main St. with several pieces of gym equipment and one tanning bed.  It was started out of their passion for fitness and was a hobby of theirs.  Mike was (and still is) a mail carrier in Ada, delivering our mail every day!

The 1990's

Bob & Linda Seymour purchased the business from the Wright's in May of 1991 and immediately added a second tanning bed and more gym equipment.  Through slow and patient growth by meeting customer needs, the business grew.  Room to grow was soon becoming a problem and we purchased the Ray Of Sun tanning salon (across the street from us) in March of 1996. This brought our tanning capacity to 12 units.  By 1999 our capacity to care for our customers was becoming stretched and we purchased the building at our current location (123 E. Buckeye Ave.); spending most of 1999 to remodel it to our specific needs, finally moving in on November 1st, 1999.

Many of the features of our existing facility was the direct result of listening to you, our customers.  We now have 3 restrooms, men's & women's showers & lockers, we tripled our gym space, added an 800 square foot aerobic room with accessories, added coin operated laundry facilities, and increased our tanning capacity to 14 beds and one vertical stand up unit with no appointment required to tan.  The entire facility is fully air-conditioned including each individual tanning room. Our Key Club Gym members now also have individual swipe cards to enter the gym area during hours we are closed, which complements the closed circuit video surveillance for their added individual security.  We also increased our retail product area to include items such as swimsuits, in-line skates, women's active wear and a large drink cooler.  The "biggest" improvement may have been the addition of 2 large parking areas; one on each side of our building of approximately 15 spaces each.
